Rolex factory service
Rolex recommends servicing a Rolex approximately every 10 years, depending on the model and how it is worn. Its network of Official Rolex Jewelers and Service Centers covers more than 100 countries, with watchmakers selected and trained by Rolex. A Rolex service starts with an estimate. The movement is then fully dismantled, cleaned, reassembled and lubricated, seals are replaced, and accuracy and waterproofness are tested. A serviced watch comes back with a two-year international service guarantee.
New Rolex watches carry a five-year international guarantee. It does not cover a watch that has been materially modified with non-genuine Rolex parts.
Independent Rolex service
An independent watchmaker can be a good choice for an out-of-guarantee or vintage Rolex, especially where you want original parts kept rather than replaced. Because the guarantee excludes non-genuine parts, ask exactly where any replacement part comes from.
Before you ship, ask
- Is this shop listed on rolex.com as an Official Rolex Jeweler, a Service Center, or neither?
- Will every replacement part be genuine Rolex?
- For vintage pieces: will you keep the original dial, hands and bezel, and return any parts you replace?
- Will I get a written estimate before work starts?
